How much toothpaste with an electric toothbrush?

It is definitely advisable to use some toothpaste on your electric toothbrush, if you want to avoid losing your teeth or having any cavities. Actually many people use a whitening toothpaste, but that only whitens the teeth, it does not clean them or make them healthy. Good fluoride toothpaste may not give you polished and white teeth, but it will remove the bacteria and give you fresh breath.

Toothpaste is not only a cleanser, but it also lubricates the teeth. You can use whitening gel if you don’t want to use toothpaste. The electric toothbrush will only remove the dirt and food rest from the teeth, but the toothpaste will lubricate the teeth and cleanse the mouth. The use of a mouthwash after each brushing is also helpful to achieve fresh breath and a clean mouth.

Of course you require less toothpaste for an electric toothbrush than a manual one, because it has a superior cleaning action and produces a foaming action. Just use branded toothpaste, which cleans as well as protects your teeth.

But you should select toothpaste which is not too abrasive, because abrasive toothpaste might lead to permanent tooth damage. An electric toothbrush is not harsh on the teeth at all, but if you brush with an electric toothbrush, it implies many more brush strokes than manual brushing in the same amount of time. Hence you have to be careful that you don’t use too many brush strokes and a high abrasive toothpaste.

Toothpaste makers concentrate a lot on the abrasiveness of the toothpaste, and some have a round grit, while others have a highly jagged grit. The user should check out the abrasivity index to suit his purpose.

The best thing is to brush your teeth at least twice a day using fluoride toothpaste which is not too abrasive. It has been proved that people using an electric toothbrush have shown better results for their teeth than people who use manual varieties.
